Investing in Youth in the West Midlands: What Role Can Funders Play?

Online event

Jan 20, 2026 from 12:30pm to 2pm GMT

As government attention turns back to young people through the 10-Year Youth Strategy and new dormant assets funding, this timely West Midlands Funders Network event explores what the Youth Guarantee really means for our region—and where funders can add the most value.

While national policy promises investment, access and youth voice, the reality on the ground is far more complex. Youth organisations across the West Midlands are navigating rising demand, reduced statutory funding, and fragmented provision. In this session, we bring together national experts, local authorities, funders and regional youth infrastructure to unpack what works, what’s missing, and how we can shape a more equitable, youth-centred system.

Join us for an engaging workshop featuring contributions from:

  • National Youth Agency, sharing their critical review of the Government’s 10-Year Youth Strategy and the effectiveness of youth hubs and crime prevention approaches.

  • Solihull MBC, exploring how the Youth Guarantee is being interpreted locally amid reduced revenue and increasing need.

  • The Rigby Foundation, discussing learning from their Inspiring Futures Programme and partnership working with WMCA and Birmingham City Council.

  • WM Youth Focus, outlining opportunities to strengthen regional youth infrastructure and amplify young people’s voices.

Through panel insights and facilitated roundtable discussions, we will explore:

  • Where funders can meaningfully complement national funding streams.

  • How to support inclusive, community-based youth provision.

  • What data, evidence and partnerships are needed for long-term impact.

  • How funders can strengthen infrastructure, sustainability and youth voice across the region.

This session is designed for funders, local authorities, youth sector leaders and anyone committed to improving outcomes for young people in the West Midlands.
